# SDKs and Tools

Today, Capital AI is a REST API: no install, any language. A CLI and an MCP server for AI assistants are coming; both will use the same API key.

## 1. Get an API key

1. In the app, click **More**, then **API**, in the rail.
2. Click **Create** and give the key a name.
3. Choose what it can do:
   * **View (read only):** balances, activity, linked banks. Start here.
   * **Trade:** also places orders, deploys, and starts deposits. Only add it if you need it.
4. Click **Create key** and copy the key. It is **shown only once**.

More detail, with revoking: [Create an API key](https://docs.capital.ai/app/api-keys.md).

![The API page](https://mintcdn.com/capital-ai/2r_nz6EQ_1nQxtlD/images/api-keys.jpg?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=2r_nz6EQ_1nQxtlD\&q=85\&s=1d6f7c23c6581840bc8f6b7601fc3f74)

Lost it? Revoke it on the same page and create a new one.

## 2. Use the API directly

Send the key as a bearer token:

```bash theme={null}
curl https://capital.ai/api/v1/whoami \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $CAPITALAI_API_KEY"
```

Every example in these docs has a REST tab and a TypeScript tab. The TypeScript ones use `fetch` and nothing else.

## 3. Coming soon

* **CLI:** every endpoint as a command, with `--json` output for scripts.
* **MCP server:** connect Claude, Cursor or Codex to your account and ask in plain language. Trade tools will be marked as making changes, so your client asks before running them.
